REVIEW: Theron, Reitman and Cody Combine For Stark, Sublime Young Adult

I don’t pretend to be a feminist or even understand feminism beyond accepting the fundamental concept of gender equality. That has always seemed straightforward enough, despite the vagaries and complications evident in myriad cultural examples from Michele Bachmann to Margaret Cho to Diablo Cody, the stripper-turned-scribe whose three produced screenplays to date — Juno, Jennifer’s Body and this week’s Young Adult — make up some of contemporary cinema’s rangier ruminations on feminism. Or at least what I think is feminism. Not to be reductive, either. Reteaming Cody with Juno director Jason Reitman, Young Adult offers intriguing points of view about a lot of subjects: The perils of nostalgia; the mythology of midlife crises; the value of community; and the futility of self-loathing come immediately to mind — but not long before the mind hurtles back to the continuity of Cody’s women. Much has also been disseminated and discussed about the screenwriter’s leap into “maturity” here, as though trading the famously pulsating patois and quirk of Juno and Jennifer’s Body for the clipped, unfettered cruelty of Young Adult signifies some kind of creative enlightenment. It does make for a fine talking point, I can’t lie. But ultimately, it’s all a distraction from the central struggle of Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron), whose journey from strong-willed, middle-class Minnesotan to homecoming queen to uneasy young bride to pseudonymous novelist and booze-bleeding urban waster is less a trajectory than a bold underscore beneath the question: What if feminism simply means having the freedom to fuck up? I know, I know: Define “fuck up.” Which is exactly the point of Young Adult — the point of all of Cody’s heroines, really, who both endure and perpetrate acts of social alienation, romantic predation, emotional abuse, sexual violence, and even ritual murder. These women are products of their environment only insofar as they might be, as in the case of Jennifer’s Body, in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Of course, Megan Fox’s character sought the wrong place, but that’s another story altogether.) In Mavis, we are faced with a woman virtually possessed by her capacity for agency. Reitman, Cody and Theron sharpen this relief by first sketching her in the throes of inertia: a Diet Coke-swigging, Kardashian-peeping young-adult novelist in Minneapolis with not a word to show for her looming deadline. Only after a few daily cycles of this will she argue she was provoked to action, sharing a grainy image of her high-school sweetheart’s newborn baby with a friend, comparing its receipt in a bulk e-mail to an act of war by said sweetheart’s wife. The friend’s glassy-eyed takeaway reflects Mavis’s true instinct back at the viewer, who looks on as Mavis flees the aftermath of a one-night stand to drive straight to her suburban hometown of Mercury, Minn. Her quest: To reconnect with Buddy (Patrick Wilson), the sweetheart and new father who may or may not have gotten away in their flannel-swaddled adolescence. Hardly an inhospitable habitat on the tundra, Mercury nevertheless welcomes its onetime darling back with a tableau of big-box stores and chain restaurants that return Mavis’s wary sneers. She resists its ordinariness at every turn, defying a hotel clerk who inquires about the toy dog wriggling in her purse, slurping down mid-tier bourbon and faking BlackBerry messages rather than engage with the dive-bar locals. Among them, however, she meets Matt (Patton Oswalt), an erstwhile classmate whose crippling beating Mavis only recalls as the consequence of Matt being the target of especially vicious homophobes. Not that he’s actually gay — just one of Mavis’s many preconceptions that fall away as her impulses attune to the stark, silent mechanics of a community that she not only didn’t leave behind, but which may have in fact passed her by. Ugliness ensues. Mavis relentlessly puts the moves on Buddy, humiliates his wife Beth (Elizabeth Reaser), evades her own parents, and torments Matt’s confidence. The film drags and sulks into its climax, which comprises three scenes that hone Young Adult’s perspective to either a bracingly honest or suicidally smug point. You decide: It culminates with Mavis finding a confessor in Matt’s sister Sandra (played enchantingly by Collette Wolfe, matching Theron note for note), and what happens next has so far has tended to galvanize the film’s enemies and embolden its supporters. For the record (and review purposes, I suppose), I’m among the latter. Young Adult is the first of Reitman’s films from which I haven’t felt him choking out a message; ironically, its rawness yields the humanity that he thought he was wringing from Up in the Air in particular, which got nowhere by assaying only the effect and not the cause of various recession-era ruthlessness. He and Cody have turned that rock over, with Theron doing the impossibly heavy lifting of making a woman inclined to selfishness, irresponsibility and condescension somehow worth our time and interest — mostly because this film is aimed at a generation for whom each of Mavis’s darkest compulsions are never far from its own. Indeed, it’s easy to resent Mavis for not behaving better — for unleashing unthinkable malevolence on a populace that cannot or will not defend itself for whatever reason — or to dismiss Cody and Reitman as nothing more than charlatans hamfistedly bending the light of the zeitgeist. But keeping Young Adult’s big reveal in mind, the picture ultimately forces those around Mavis — both onscreen and off — to reconcile what they will and won’t tolerate from a woman. Love it or hate it, this is the ethical root note of all of Cody’s work to date. Previously muddled in the cultural noise of Oscar season or a leading lady’s intransigence (talk about not having the freedom to fuck up!), that challenge harmonizes today with the likes of We Need to Talk About Kevin and Sleeping Beauty — other marvelous new work about women who face the deeply unpleasant consequences of defying expectation. But what does it mean? And why now? Maybe it’s a sheer thematic coincidence amid the chorus of movies featuring boys behaving badly, violently, childishly, or all three. But from what I can tell, I think it’s likelier — even under the spiritual pall of Young Adult — that Cody and her peers guiding us onto a frontier where there’s nothing left to do but listen. Ready or not, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time. Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Secrecy bill can't silence SABC

CAPE TOWN - Picketing by disgruntled viewers, staffers and suppliers has become commonplace outside the South African Broadcasting Corp.'s (SABC) Johannesburg HQ in recent years -- and shows no sign of abating as the near-bankrupt pubcaster wrestles with a string of scandals. At the end of November, the SOS Support Public Broadcasting Coalition demonstrated in front of the building, calling for the government to axe SABC board chairman Ben Ngubane amid allegations of staff corruption. The cash-strapped broadcaster, which operates three channels, has had five chief executive officers and three boards since 2007 and is presently lacking a CEO, chief operating officer and chief financial officer. The picket at the SABC came two days after Black Tuesday, when mass protests failed to stop the South African parliament from passing the Protection of State Information Bill. This so-called Secrecy Bill means that journalists and whistle-blowers may be jailed for 25 years for possessing or disseminating information the government has deemed classified, even if acting in the public interest.Tensions within the SABC started with a politically appointed board in 2007.At a time when the SABC was losing advertising revenue, audiences and the production sector's trust, the pubcaster desperately needed visionary leadership, but instead became embroiled in a political battle between then president Thabo Mbeki and current president Jacob Zuma, with the pro-Mbeki board fired by Zuma's parliament in 2009.During the economic crisis in the 2008-2009 financial year, the SABC lost close to R1 billion ($124.5 million), and was forced to seek government guarantees of $186.7 million."Never-ending mismanagement, fruitless and wasteful expenditure, and no permanence in leadership continue to be the order of the day at the SABC," says Marc Schwinges, deputy chair of the South African Screen Federation (Sasfed), which represents all the major film industry orgs. The pubcaster has had no clear financial recovery plan since the government withdrew the 1% tax on personal income that funded SABC.At the current picket, SOS, formerly known as Save Our SABC, complained that the pubcaster had not answered questions about a host of issues, including why the vacant exec positions hadn't been filled. They also want to know why pubcaster exec Justice Ndaba, disgraced for taking $30,600 for study and travel expenses, among other things, was replaced by former head Sipho Sithole, who previously faced allegations that his private interests in the music and film industries conflicted with his role at the SABC.The coalition also questioned the SABC's recently released Request for Proposals, its system for ordering locally made shows. "The 2010 and 2011 RFPs make up only a small percentage of what is required in new original programming to meet local content quotas," says Schwinges. SABC air a mix of children's programming, infomercials, imported series and some local general entertainment.More than 120 people gathered to support the coalition, including reps from Sasfed; the Congress of South African Trade Unions and its affiliated unions; and NGOs including the Freedom of Expression Institute, the Right to Know Campaign, Media Monitoring Africa, and the Soweto Concerned Residents Assn.In response, government communications minister Dina Pule has set up a war room to deal with the SABC crisis. She is pressing for the SABC turnaround plan to be finalized by January. Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

During the press conference, Universal president Ron Meyer said opening a similar attraction in L.A. "will change the face of tourism in Southern California." Meyer also said the attraction would cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Asked afterwards if there was a more exact figure, Meyer said, "That's as close as I want to get." He added that the Potter attraction would be a "game changer" for the park. As for where the ride would be located, the Universal president said, "We have 400 acres and only 200 have been developed." (There has been speculation that since the King Kong ride was destroyed by fire in 2008 Potter might be located there.) 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn' Star Kellan Lutz Denied Doughnut Delivery to Fans by Premiere Venue

While activists across the globe sit in and camp out for the Occupy movement, there remains another, possibly more devoted group going unbathed: the Twilight fans.our editor recommends'Twilight's' Kellan Lutz Says 'Breaking Dawn' Director Brought Gay Sensibility to FilmComic-Con 2011: Kellan Lutz, Henry Cavill, Tarsem Singh Stump for 'Immortals'The Twilight Saga: Breaking DawnPart 1: Film Review'Twilight: Breaking Dawn' Red Carpet Premiere Live Stream Twilight's 'Breaking Dawn - Part One' Premiere Buildup Hits New Heights Twilight "Tent City" (current population: 1,400) went up in downtown Los Angeles last week in anticipation of Monday's premiere screening and red carpet for the saga's penultimate installment, Breaking Dawn - Part One. Many residents have slept on the ground for four nights just to catch a glimpse of the franchise stars, and on Friday one of them made an early appearance. PHOTOS: New Images of 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in the series and currently stars as Poseidon in Immortals, stopped by late in the evening with 40 dozen glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts for his devoted fans. He started making his way through the three massive tents, nestled between the Nokia Theater and the Staples Center, passing out the baked goods with staffers from Summit Entertainment, when he was cut short. A rep for Lutz tells The Hollywood Reporter that the 26-year-old was halted by representative from LA Live said he couldn't pass out food, as it was in violation of code. VIDEO: Kellan Lutz Says 'Twilight' Film 'Wasn't a Well-Oiled Machine,' 'Immortals' Was 'Much More Enjoyable' There was apparently no elaboration on why Lutz couldn't pass out the doughnuts, and LA Live parent company AEG did not immediately return THR's request for comment, but Subway sandwiches were handed out in a similar fashion earlier that day to no consequence. So while the remaining doughnuts were packed away, Lutz continued to make his way through the crowd, clocking an hour and a half of face-time to pose for photos and sign autographs. James Franco's 'Rebel Without a Cause' Art Project Involves Gender-Bending Orgy With Sex Dolls, Toys

Inspired by the raunchy behind-the-scenes tales from James Dean's iconic Rebel Without a Cause, James Franco used some risqué and gender-bending tactics for his most recent art project.our editor recommendsJames Franco Is Tailor Made for Gucci's Made to Measure ServiceJames Dean: Remembering the Icon on the Anniversary of his DeathJames Franco's Art Debut Honoring James Dean Postponed James Franco References Oscar Gig on 'General Hospital' Appearance (VIDEO) PHOTOS: James Dean Remembered In a feature for Flaunt Magazine, Marc-Edouard Leon gives a first hand account from the set of Franco's Rebel project. Filmed in the Chateau's Bungalow 2, the very same place where James Dean, Sal Mineo, Natalie Wood, Dennis Hopper and director Nick Ray engaged in backstage shenanigans, Franco asked his actors to dress in drag as they performed a dramatic reenactment of the controversial stories. "I played James Dean in a biopic, so I also felt connections to the original film. I'd done research and talked to most of the people that had done Rebel Without a Cause that were still alive. I realized that the stories about the making of were fascinating and that there was an equally compelling drama going on behind-the-scenes," Franco explained of his desire to do the project. "Over the years, I felt like there was a lot of stuff to mine in that original movie. I didn't want to dramatize the behind the scenes in a traditional way though." PHOTOS: Backstage at the 83rd Academy Awards Among the booze-fueled highlights of the project are a high-speed nude drive down Sunset Blvd, tons of fake blood, an orgy complete with sex dolls and dildos, and a 5 a.m. swim to wash away the sins. "I get back to Bungalow 2 a few hours later to interview Franco," writes Leon. "He is unnervingly chipper. He laughs about the sex scene he orchestrated. 'Having sex with dolls with plastic dicks is fucking great,' Franco exalts, 'because you get to examine that act without the onus of people just looking at it and saying, 'That's pornography.' You can actually think about it for a second and ask yourself what is happening there when you're doing that for real.' The whole venture is pretty weird. No matter what anyone says, Franco is producing ideas, turning them into art. James Franco is an artist." Read a full account of the evening here, following the mag's Q&A section. Tom Cruise Knows You're Not Happy He's Starring in 'One Shot'

Not-so-tall Tom Cruise playing the six-foot-five Jack Reacher in 'One Shot' hasn't gone over well with fans of the Lee Child novel. The outcry over the casting is reminiscent of when he got flak for signing on to play a blond, androgynous bloodsucker in 1994's 'Interview With The Vampire.' Cruise tells Empire that he's aware of the brouhaha. " I'm very sensitive to it," he explained. "This is Lee's book and Lee's character. Him giving me his blessing is what made me do it. If he hadn't then I wouldn't have done it." Child says he's "thrilled" about having Cruise embody his ex-military cop. As he told the BBC, "People think we should have had an actor that looks more like Reacher is described in the books. First of all there aren't any such actors, so it's much more a question of which actor has the talent and screen presence to create what Reacher does on the screen, and that really comes down to finding the actor with the most talent." Cruise raved about the character to Empire: "He doesn't have a cell phone, he doesn't have email. He's off the grid. He pays for things in cash. People look at things through the prism of the colors of their life, but Jack Reacher does things the way we want to sometimes. In that sense he's sort of a Dirty Harry, a James Bond, a Josey Wales." As for that 'Vampire' flap, author Anne Rice was so upset about having the star of 'Top Gun' as her centuries-old bloodsucker, she stated that "Cruise is no more my Vampire Lestat than Edward G. Robinson is Rhett Butler." She eventually recanted and took out ads praising his performance in the movie. 'One Shot' is currently filming in Pittsburgh with Christopher McQuarrie ('The Way of the Gun') directing. Although landing a job inside a prime-time network show could be many an actor's dream, a component on Hawaii Five- has special importance to local people. Once the new show arrived on the scene I recognized, 'Man, everyone was elevated on Hawaii Five-.' I acquired goosebumps." Sophistication Park, who plays Kono, added, "I am learning that Hawaii Five- means a great deal to the folks of Hawaii. I'd no clue. I truly do enjoy that they are keeping the show as authentic as they possibly can. There is nowhere near to this many violent crimes around the island, however i believe that people realize that.Inch Authenticity stretches beyond just casting. The colorfully colored shrimp truck is really a signature business for Hawaii that provides the seafood cooked in a variety of spices or herbs. Local people and site visitors alike hotly defend a common trucks and debate the very best flavor. Even Kim has considered in: "I've two faves: Macky's is amazing, not to mention the tried and tested is Giovanni's. So based on which argument from the North Shoreline you are on, give among individuals an attempt. I order the butter garlic clove. I love it light around the butter and high around the garlic clove." For Clever, the shrimp truck is really a public realization of some other of his personal goals. I prepare food for that village constantly free of charge, therefore it is been in my thoughts also. My areas are bbq chicken, laulau... lots of authentic food." Hawaii Five-: Is the team lose Kono? Like his character, Clever is not quite happy with his current degree of success and it is hopeful that Kamekona may take on additional responsibilities on the program. "I gotta enter better shape, but I must enter into some stunts later," he revealed. "YI require a badge! They have to cause me to feel area of the team. I'd rather not you need to be the informant. Are you able to just talk me as a great guy?" Hawaii Five- airs on Mondays at 10/9c on CBS. Would you enjoy Kamekona on the program? How good do you consider the show shows Hawaiian culture? Information Diet: Eddie Kaye Thomas

The 'How to Make It in America' star makes time for Franzen and 'Louie'even if he can't keep it classy enough for the BBC. Adweek: What's the first information you consume in the morning? Eddie Kay Thomas: My email, and there usually isn't much there. Just a lot of advertisements and things I don't need.Adweek: What do you read or watch or listen to at the breakfast table? Thomas: It changes a lot. I just started trying to be classy and listening to the BBC in the morning, and that lasted about two weeks. Other than that, I'm a bit of an Internet slut with The Huffington Post and The NY Times.Adweek: What occupies your mind in the car, on the subway, train, or bus? Thomas: I've been working on The NY Times crossword puzzle on the subway. I can make it until about Wednesday. And over the summer, somebody loaded my iPad with about 75 books, so I just finished Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections, and now I'm racing through Revolutionary Road. It's uplifting stuff.Adweek: Are you a TV junkie, or on an airtime-restricted diet? Thomas: I've been lucky enough to be too busy for TV because if I'm not, I'll get stuck in front of it.Adweek: If you're a couch potato, what do you watch, and how: TV, laptop, or tablet? Thomas: I raced through Game of Thrones a few weeks ago. The hurricane helped me with that. Lately I've been watching shows on my new computerI haven't watched regular cable except for sports in a while. If I have the TV on, it's either a Mets game or SportsCenter.Adweek: Before bed, do you bite into a novel, graze on Twitter, or fast until morning? Thomas: For the past couple of weeks, I've been watching an episode or two of Louie before I go to sleepI think it's the most amazing thing I've seen on TV in a while. Or I'll try to read. Adweek: Which is more nutritious: print or Web? Thomas: I read a lot of news online, but I like buying a paper because I'll read an article I wouldn't normally read. And more often than not, the articles that you don't expect to care about are the ones that grab you.Adweek: Give us the skinny on your favorite app. Thomas: GarageBand on the iPad is really amazing. It's scary how anyone can make a brilliant song on there. Adweek: What's your biggest digital indulgence? Thomas: I am a Facebook voyeur. I feel bad about it because I never put anything on there, but I find it fun to sit there and watch peoples' lives go by. Or whatever lives they're presenting.Adweek: With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat? Thomas: When you have an iPad and 75 books on it, it's so easy to go, "I'm bored, I'm just going to read something else." I like to challenge myself and say, "No, stick with it." I think it's my own responsibility not to get sucked into all the distractions. When we hop around, we miss so many beautiful details. Adweek

Ask Matt: The New Season, Plus Fringe, Mentalist, Prime Suspect and More!

Rachel Bilson As opening nights go, last Monday's kickoff to the fall season was pretty spectacular. Now with the two Charlies laid to rest (and Sheen charred at the celebrity roast), we'll see how Two and a Half Men holds up, along with the rest of CBS' comedy lineup. Add some high-profile dinosaurs to the mix this week, and it should be another fascinating night.First, the new shows, from Fall Preview:My initial Take on Fox's Terra Nova (two-hour premiere at 8/7c): "Bigger isn't always better, but in this case, it may be enough. Terra Nova will win no prizes for its cardboard characters and clunky writing, but hey, it's got CGI dinosaurs! This is the fall's grandest escape and riskiest swing." To elaborate: This lavishly produced family-friendly sci-fi time-travel adventure isn't what you'd call edgy - from Steven Spielberg, it has Jurassic bark, but not much bite - and it lays on the "starting over" schmaltz a bit heavily as we follow a family through a Stargate-like portal into a settlement 85 million years in the prehistoric past on a separate time stream, giving humans a second chance to create a civilization without destroying the planet. (The dystopian prologue makes the world of Blade Runner look like a musical comedy.) If you can make it past the exposition, and the earnest family clichés - a rebellious teenage son, an awkward brainiac daughter - there's plenty of satisfying dino action. And it all looks gorgeous. Precious little on network TV feels like an "event" (not to be confused with The Event) anymore, and if this can't take a bite out of the competition, it may be a while before we see its like again.Want more fall TV news? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!Not even worth a nibble is the CW's Hart of Dixie (9/8c), about which I wrote in Fall Preview: "Couldn't blame the South for threatening to secede again after sampling this patronizingly phony, city-fish-out-of-backwater lump of country-friend hokum. Our hearts go out to the appealing actors trapped in this cloying bayou of cutesy quicksand." To elaborate - do I really have to? - this asks us to believe The O.C.'s chirpy but brittle Rachel Bilson as a wannabe heart surgeon named Zoe Hart (get it?) who's transplanted against her will to the twee burg of Bluebell, Ala., where she's bequeathed a kindly country doctor's bucolic practice. This is the South by way of the Warner Bros. backlot, with a pet alligator (named Burt Reynolds) and belles in "cotillion chic" pinafores and umbrellas. The show gets a momentary lift when Zoe meets a local lawyer played by Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights' Jason Street), but doggone it, he's attached to a catty debutante named Lemon (!), whose dad is the town's rival doctor. Watching Hart of Dixie is like mainlining praline. Your mind will rot before your teeth do. Any resemblance to a charming hamlet like Gilmore Girls' Stars Hollow is only in the producers' minds.THE LAUGH TRACK: Coming off last week's blockbuster comeback, CBS' Two and a Half Men (9/8c) has another ace up its sleeve: the wonderful Judy Greer, guesting as the ex of lovelorn Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher). ... Five Ways MTV Could Experience again Its Youth at 30

MTV On August. 1, 1981, by using the Buggles as well as their song "Video Wiped out radio stations Star," MTV released into orbit. This means that MTV is turning 30. That's nearly an era over the age of individuals in the 12-to-18 target demographic. Bust out the veneers and Is dependent! To be serious though, MTV is way different now. Really, using the boost of Jersey Shoreline and also the 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mother shows, it is a different animal from the time the funnel was 27. When individuals discuss its altering face, the "Play videos again!" critique isn't not even close to the discourse yet, it's difficult to determine how straightforward music-video programming would fit in a YouTubed world. Plus, MTV already has a lot of offshoot stations like MTV Jams to complete that. Nevertheless, it might be nice for MTV to experience again what it used to well like a general pop-culture authority. Take a look at five suggestions of styles the network could revisit to pay for wear and tear spots: 1. Result In The Real Life about those who have more happening compared to Real Life - Remember if this show was populated by motivated youthful individuals who desired to really make a difference on the planet? Remember if this show was a way to their set goals, no finish? Remember once the Season 1 cast colored Jerry Brown's telephone number on the wall? Otherwise, then that's much more of the reason behind the show revisit its initial casting M.O. We can look to any funnel watching youthful people get drunk and discuss themselves and one another. Catch on present day news 2. Promote thoughtful interaction - Hello! It's 2011! Rather than scrolling tweets an internet-based chats, why don't you restore the kind of Handheld Remote Control, which pressed pop-culture consumption well in to the arena of the active and from the passive? 3. Resurrect the sensibility of mocking adoration -Returning the initial recappers Beavis and Butt-Mind is really a start, but to actually marinate within this subtle sensibility, a Julie Brown revival is needed. Her Just Say Julie was the first one to feature on-screen video commentary, showing us that pop music wasn't only fun but funny. And a minimum of among her targets got the joke: Brown openly reviled Sheena Easton a lot that Easton eventually became a member of her on the program. So yeah, much more of that please! Beavis and Butt-Mind has returned! What's old? What's new? 4. Curate! - Maybe people don't wish to watch a block of random videos, but shows like Years old! MTV Raps, 2 hours and Headbangers Ball could once more supply the service before: Giving audiences a survey of what's new in a variety of genres, thanks to experts for example Erectile dysfunction Lover, Dr. Dré and Matt Pinfield. Yes, people pay attention to music inside a more splintered way now and genre line is looser than ever before, but that is precisely why offerring some feeling of individuals limitations is vital. Julie Brown finds new "vague celebs" to poke fun at 5. Put people inside a room, make sure they are dance and film it. - Dance music is much more popular now than it's been because the times of disco. Why, then, can there be this is not on TV an inexpensive American Bandstand rip-off that turns a lot of cameras on people taking pleasure in the seem of now? In the end, there is no shortage of youthful people who wish to be on camera. Returning Club MTV/The Grind would be also a pleasant antidote to any or all the official dance competitions that ton the airwaves at this time. It's the perfect time for that freestyle programs! Clearly, with regard points such as the early seasons from the Real Life, Handheld Remote Control, Just Say Julie, Years old! MTV Raps and Club MTV, my prescription for MTV reliving its youth is perfect for MTV being what it really is at the late 1980s/early 1990's - after i would be a child. (I am confident that I were older, I'd be saying restore Martha Quinn.) So, this is an opportunity that i can revisit my youth. And, in the end, exactly what does youth-oriented TV fare better than provide vicarious living?
