Lionsgate stock continues to soar
Stock of Lionsgate is heading for a fourth consecutive all-time high amid Wall Street optimism over its young-adult franchises "The Hunger Games" and "Twilight."The issue soared 6% Friday, gaining 81 cents to $13.71 in mid-session trading on the NY Stock Exchange. The issue had gained 3% on Thursday and posted 2% hikes on Wednesday and Tuesday.The stock has jumped 59% since Jan. 13, when Liosngate completed its $412.5 million leveraged buyout of Summit Entertainment.Several factors have led to the bullish outlook including sales of 5 million units of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" in its first 11 days and the announcement by the Fandango ticketing site that first-day advance ticket sales of "The Hunger Games" had already sold out hundreds of showtimes in advance of the March 23 release date -- breaking the previous first day advance ticket-seller record held by "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" on May 14, 2010. When you make a movie set in a commune where nudity and free love reign, it helps if your actors know each other beforehand. On Thursday, Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd preemed Universal's "Wanderlust" at the Mann Village Theater in Westwood, and on the red carpet, helmer David Wain said he was very happy they'd appeared together years ago in "The Object of My Affection," not to mention a few episodes of "Friends.""Chemistry is everything and the fact that they had worked together in the past and were already friends only helped when they came together on set," Wain noted.The helmer, who wrote the laffer with Ken Marino, enthused over one scene where Rudd pumps himself up in front of the mirror before having sex. Kino buys Auteuil pic
Kino Lorber has acquired all U.S. privileges to vet thesp Daniel Auteuil's directorial debut "The Well-Digger's Daughter" (La Fille du puisatier), a remake of Marcel Pagnol's 1940 classic film.Pic toplines Auteuil, up-and-comer Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Sabine Azema and Nicolas Duvauchelle.Pic continues to be selected to unspool in the NY Rendez-Vous with French Cinema in March. Darroussin will attend the big event.Kino Lorber will release the film in June at NY's Lincoln subsequently Plaza Movie theaters and can expand the theatrical rollout with other major marketplaces within the summer time. VOD and homevid releases follows later around.Arranged around the eve of World war 2 in Southern France, the melodrama focuses on a properly digger and the 18-year-old daughter. She falls for each other and it has a young child by having an upper-class youthful pilot who's been sent off and away to war.Auteuil broke through a lot more than twenty five years ago in Claude Berri's "Jean p Florette" and "Manon from the Spring," both modified from Pagnol.The thesp-helmer can also be aboard to direct the remake of Pagnol's nineteen thirties trilogy "Marius," "Fanny" and "Cesar." Photos is going to be created by Alain Sarde's AS Films and Jerome Seydoux's Pathe, who last teamed on "The Well-Digger's Daughter."Deal was discussed between Kino Lorber's Boss Richard Lorber and Pathe's professional Vice president of worldwide sales, Muriel Sauzay.
